College Access Center helping Louisville residents navigate new FAFSA application

Program offers a variety of free services for prospective college goers of all ages

LOUISVILLE (February 9, 2024) – KentuckianaWorks College Access Center, a city program committed to helping individuals start their college journey or return to school to complete their degree, is offering Louisville residents assistance in navigating the new FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) process. The federal deadline for the FAFSA is June 30, but prospective students in Kentucky are encouraged to submit their application as soon as possible to be eligible for the maximum amount of financial aid.

Louisville is fortunate to have a great resource in the College Access Center team, which is working hard to increase access to college for every person across our city.

“Education is key to a brighter future for both our people and our city, and it’s important we offer as much support as possible to those looking to achieve their goal of a higher education,” said Mayor Craig Greenberg. “Louisville is fortunate to have a great resource in the College Access Center team, which is working hard to increase access to college for every person across our city.”

The U.S. Department of Education introduced a new application process for FAFSA in 2023, delaying the opening for individuals to apply until Dec. 31st. Since then, the College Access Center has helped more than 250 clients with the FAFSA.

“Changes with the FAFSA always lead to new questions and confusion, especially early on,” said Kim Harrison, Executive Director of the College Access Center. “We guide clients through each step and make sure they have the resources they need to be successful.”

In addition to offering FAFSA assistance, the College Access Center also helps clients complete their enrollment applications, search for scholarships, select the right school and program, learn about the job market, and more. Most of the College Access Center’s clients are low income and/or first-generation college students. Many are immigrants and refugees.

The College Access Center is funded by Louisville Metro Government and the U.S. Department of Education. It is run by KentuckianaWorks, the Workforce Development Board for the Louisville region. The center is located at 642 S. 4th St. on the 3rd Floor. Call (502) 584-0475 or visit kentuckianaworks.org/kcac to find walk-in hours, make an appointment, and learn more. All its services and support are free of charge.
