On Friday, December 8, employers met at GE Appliance’s Monogram Hall for the Academies of Louisville Partner Learning Exchange. The goals of the event were to create an opportunity for Academies business partners to meet one another, share tips, and build a better understanding of how to work with students effectively.
The Academies of Louisville (AofL) is a career-themed learning model that Jefferson County Public Schools began implementing in 2017. Since then, every AofL school has seen an increase in postsecondary readiness and the number of industry certifications earned by students has more than doubled. Along with Greater Louisville Inc., KentuckianaWorks has led efforts to recruit and engage the Academies’ 200+ business partners.
Mark Hamner of Waystar was the emcee for the Partner Learning Exchange event. Kristin Wingfield of JCPS moderated a panel conversation featuring Shaun Sargent (JCPS graduate who now works at Kentucky Kingdom), Austin Brewer (JCPS graduate who now works at Wirecrafters), Crystal Cornelison (CTE Business Teacher at Moore High School) and Jimmy Smith (CEO, Keller Williams Louisville - AofL Business Partner).
